In the Atana Pirariame sector, one of the 17 sectors that make up the Indigenous Reserve Selva
Matavén, we carried out a new delivery day aimed at strengthening well-being, food security,
and autonomy for the Indigenous families who protect this ecosystem.
This action reinforces the philosophy that guides the REDD+ Matavén Project:
when we care for the people who care for the forest, we secure the long-term protection of
the territory. It is a vision where climate action, forest conservation, and community
development advance together.
What was delivered during this activity?
- Construction tools and hardware to support the improvement and maintenance of
- dignified housing.
- Cooking sets and metal budares, essential for food preparation and for strengthening local
- food security.
- Solar panel kits, ensuring access to clean and sustainable energy across the territory.
- Bicycles, improving mobility within Matavén and reducing travel times.
- Computers and digital equipment, expanding access to education, information, and
- connectivity.
- Other essential household items, prioritized together with the communities to enhance
- family well-being.
A model where conservation and well-being move forward together
The REDD+ Matavén Project protects more than one million hectares of tropical forest, a
conservation effort made possible through Indigenous leadership and a benefit-sharing model
that strengthens natural resource protection, community well-being, and long-term autonomy.
This work directly benefits more than 22,000 Indigenous people from the Cubeo, Curripaco,
Piapoco, Piaroa, Puinave, and Sikuani peoples, who remain the guardians of this ancestral
territory, an important ecosystem for climate action and high-integrity nature-based solutions in
Colombia and the world.
