For the first time since the creation of ACATISEMA, a woman has been elected to the Board of the Indigenous Reserve Selva Matavén, the highest governing authority in the territory. This milestone represents a significant step forward for Indigenous governance and reflects how the REDD+ Matavén Project continues to strengthen gender equity across the territory.
The election of Marilu Mollano as Fiscal Auditor opens a new chapter in the organizational history of Matavén. Her leadership inspires Indigenous women who wish to take part in decision-making and contribute to the future of the territory, demonstrating that their voices are essential in shaping the direction of the territory.
This historic moment is the result of the collective commitment of the communities that, for more than a decade, have driven a model of high-integrity climate action grounded in participation, representation and equity. The inclusion of women in these decision-making spaces strengthens this collective path.
Indigenous Governance for High-Integrity Climate Action
Strengthening self-governance structures is fundamental for the long-term sustainability of the REDD+ Matavén Project, since the most effective and legitimate climate action emerges from the territories and the communities that have protected these forests for generations.
This milestone is a story of change, participation and forward vision, where gender equity becomes a pillar for Indigenous leadership and for the high-integrity climate action we advance through the REDD+ Matavén Project.
