Matavén Indigenous Communities:
The Heart of the REDD+ Project

The Resguardo Selva Matavén is home to six Indigenous ethnic groups: Cubeo, Curripaco, Piapoco, Piaroa, Puinave, and Sikuani. Together, they form a population of over 22.486 Indigenous peoples, located in the last well-preserved transition zones in Colombia, between the Orinoquía savannas and the Amazon rainforest. Their knowledge, presence, and stewardship are the lifeblood of the REDD+ Matavén Project, a unique initiative created by the communities and for the communities.
