Through this Key Activity, we create opportunities, provide tools, spaces, favorable conditions, and resources for the Matavén communities to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to manage and actively participate in the REDD+ Matavén Project and other initiatives aimed at protecting and conserving their natural resources. Its successful implementation has led to significant results and benefits, including:
According to the Population Census we conducted in 2018 as part of the REDD+ Matavén Project activities, less than 1% of the population in Matavén holds a professional or technical degree. To address this, we created the Ethnic Higher Education Program “Transforming Lives Fund” to help Matavén Indigenous youth access and stay in higher education institutions.
As part of the Ethnic Higher Education Program “Transforming Lives Fund,” we cover tuition fees and provide financial assistance for housing, transportation, food, study materials, uniforms, and equipment for Matavén Indigenous youth.
These students pursue careers in fields such as Business Administration, Anthropology, Accounting, Law, Nursing, Agroecological Engineering, Agronomy, Environmental Engineering, Agroforestry Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Dentistry, Psychology, Social Work, Animal Husbandry, Childhood Pedagogy, Special Education, Foreign Languages, Health and Occupational Safety Management, Environmental Development Technology, and Legal Information Management.
