Training & workshops for Matavén Indigenous Guard

In the past few days, we conducted Training & Workshop sessions for the Matavén Indigenous Guard, on surveillance and control of the territory; and protection and conservation of their forests, water and biodiversity.

These Workshops are part of “Activity 1 of REDD+ Matavén: Surveillance and control of the territory”, which is a fundamental axis of the Project, as it roots Matavén sustainable management practices by stopping deforestation and degradation of its forests.

313 guards participated in the training/workshop sessions led by the Project’s co-director and his assistant, the Project’s field director, 2 specialized professionals from Mediamos and the 6 zonal coordinators.

Through these Workshops we look that Matavén Indigenous Guard can:

  • Be clear about their responsibilities and tasks to control and protect the territory and its natural resources.
  • Get empowered and understand the impacts and the importance of their role at local, national, and global levels.
  • Strengthen governance in their communities.
  • Learn more about REDD+ Matavén, its progress and results.
