Through this Key Activity we present the annual results to accredited independent auditors for evaluation and verification. This process ensures that the methodologies are being applied correctly and that the Project is achieving its objectives through the activities undertaken. Once the results are verified and pass the audit, the Project receives a number of carbon credits.
The REDD+ Matavén Project undergoes audits every 2-3 years by authorized independent third parties known as Validation/Verification Bodies (VVB), following Verra’s requirements. These audits verify whether the Project’s methodologies and results meet international standards
REDD+ Matavén has been verified three times against the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS):
The Project has also been verified once against the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standard:
You can find the verification reports here, also publicly available on Verra’s website.
Verification is essential to the success of the Project. Passing the verification process allows the Project to receive carbon credits, which are the primary financial resource for sustaining and funding all activities in Matavén. Without carbon credits, it would be impossible to carry out the programs and initiatives that support the communities and protect the forest.
