At REDD+ Matavén, everything we do starts with the land and its people. Since 2013, we’ve worked closely with the Indigenous communities of the Resguardo Selva Matavén to stop deforestation, protect their forests, biodiversity, and waters, to tackle climate change and improve the living conditions of its indigenous communities. Our approach is built on deep collaboration, where the communities needs, knowledge, and proposals drive the design and implementation of all our activities and programs.
Every step we take begins with a careful evaluation of risks, threats, and opportunities unique to Matavén, guided by the wisdom and leadership of Indigenous authorities. Through this collaborative process, we develop activities and programs that are effective in protecting the environment and also reflect the priorities of the communities who call this land home.
The project goes beyond protecting the forest. REDD+ Matavén takes a holistic approach to sustainability, focusing on education, gender equality, and the alignment of modern conservation practices with ancestral knowledge. Our aim is to foster lasting change that promotes sustainable practices and forest conservation while improving the quality of life in the region.
With 8 Key Activities and 6 Special Programs, the project is designed to meet the objective of halting deforestation and ensuring a sustainable future for Matavén’s forests and communities
Our activities and programs reach all 17 sectors of Matavén, ensuring that the benefits of REDD+ Matavén are distributed widely and equitably. By working hand-in-hand with Indigenous communities, we are building a future where forests thrive, biodiversity flourishes, and local communities are empowered to lead sustainable and resilient lives
