REDD+ Matavén at the Colombia Carbon Forum 2025

The REDD+ Matavén Project actively participated in the Colombia Carbon Forum 2025, one of the country’s most important events focused on the carbon marketclimate finance, and nature-based solutions. The forum brought together key stakeholders from across the climate space, Indigenous communities, environmental leaders, private sector representatives, government agencies, and international partners, to strengthen Colombia’s and Latin America’s climate agenda.

The Voice of Forest Guardians

REDD+ Matavén was represented by two Indigenous leaders whose participation reflected the deep connection between territorial conservation and effective climate action:

  • Luciano Herrera, Indigenous advisor to ACATISEMA (Association of Traditional Indigenous Authorities and Councils of the Matavén Forest), joined Panel I – Communities in Action: Carbon Projects with Social and Economic Impact.
  • Alejandro Camacho, Co-Director of the REDD+ Matavén Project and member of the Piaroa people, contributed to Panel III – Safeguards and Communities: Ensuring Social and Environmental Benefits in Carbon Projects.

Both voices brought a powerful message: Indigenous peoples are frontline protectors of forests and must play a central role in climate finance and decision-making processes.

Real Solutions Rooted in Territory

Participating in platforms like the Colombia Carbon Forum is essential to highlight successful community-led carbon initiatives, share experiences, build partnerships, and foster dialogue that drives meaningful change. At REDD+ Matavén, we believe that real climate action is only possible when it recognizes and uplifts the leadership of territories that have protected forests for generations.
