On August 29, 30 & 31 we opened two cooperative stores with solar energy: one in Cumaral (Sector Cumaral) YO COMPRO” ÜTTÜ EMÜSÄ store; and another one in Morichal (Sector Morocoto) “YO COMPRO” NUWENIAKALU store. The communities, captains, teachers and Members of the COOMATAVÉN Cooperative attended the opening. We trained the sellers, and we equipped the stores with groceries and necessity goods for sale.
We are creating the cooperative stores throughour COOMATAVÉN Cooperative to market products that are grown, crafted and needed by Matavén indigenous communities and people from the surrounding area. These are spaces to satisfy Matavén consumer needs, guarantee their food security and create new economic and commercial opportunities to improve their quality of life.
Considering that Matavén is a vast territory (almost 2 million hectares) for some communities it is a great challenge to acquire products/groceries because they must travel to other locations (high costs, long distances and time). Cooperative stores are one of the solutions to overcome this situation; so that we continue working to build new ones.
