Indigenous communities of Aiwa Kuna Tsepajibo, Caño Cawasi y Atana Pirariame of the Indigenous Reservation of the Mataven Forest (RIU-SM for its acronym in Spanish) – received 5 boats as part of our “Activity 2: Improvement of the systems of communications, transportation and information”. With this Activity we look to provide the primary vehicle for RIU-SM indigenous transportation and create better conditions for their commercial activities.
It is important to note that RIU-SM indigenous people face great difficulties of transportation and communication, the RIU-SM is a large territory (1.856.836 hectares) without roads and long river distances (going from one community to another can take up to 5 hours by boat).
Our Mataven REDD+ Project is a participatory process, we work hand in hand with RIU-SM indigenous communities to tackle climate change, stop deforestation, protect their tropical forests & reduce CO2 global emissions – while safeguarding their rich biodiversity and improving their well-being.
