At REDD+ Matavén, we understand that health and environmental protection are deeply connected. Through IPS Matavén, the first healthcare institution in the Resguardo Selva Matavén, we conducted the medical brigade route in the Aiwakuna Tsepajibo and Orinoco sectors. Since river transport is the primary means of mobility—often costly and time-consuming—bringing healthcare services directly to the communities is vital for improving their quality of life.
Our holistic approach recognizes the essential role of indigenous peoples as forest guardians. Keeping communities healthy is key to ensuring they can continue protecting the forests, biodiversity, and natural resources. By enhancing the well-being of these communities, we also strengthen environmental conservation, contributing to the fight against climate change and promoting sustainable development .
At REDD+ Matavén, we remain committed to providing the necessary resources for communities to continue their vital role in safeguarding the rainforest, ensuring a balance between environmental sustainability, social well-being, and respect for cultural diversity.
