REDD+ Matavén at Colombia Carbon Forum 2026

The REDD+ Matavén Project participated on April 16–17 in the Colombia Carbon Forum, held in Bogotá, one of the leading platforms for carbon market dialogue and coordination in Colombia.

These types of forums are particularly relevant in a context where decisions around climate action and carbon markets have direct implications for the territories where these projects are implemented.

A key platform for Colombia’s carbon market

The event brought together leaders from the public and private sectors, technical experts, and key organizations to discuss the progress, challenges, and opportunities of the voluntary carbon market in Colombia and the region.

Key topics included the challenges of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, international cooperation mechanisms, and the need to strengthen coordination across stakeholders to advance effective, high-integrity climate action.

Trends and challenges in the voluntary carbon market

Amid growing demand for credible climate solutions, the carbon market is evolving toward higher levels of rigor, transparency, and traceability.

Coordination and international cooperation

Strengthening collaboration among public, private, and community actors is emerging as a key factor to scale climate action.

Integrity as a core principle

Trust, traceability, and compliance with robust standards are becoming essential elements for the development of the market.

REDD+ Matavén’s contribution from the territory

REDD+ Matavén brings over a decade of experience implementing large-scale conservation projects in Colombia.

The project protects more than one million hectares of forest in the transition zone between the Orinoquía and the Amazon, under a model led by Indigenous communities and certified under Verra international standards, VCS and CCB.

This work translates into the conservation of strategic ecosystems, the protection of water sources, and the strengthening of the well-being of the Indigenous communities living in the territory.

A market evolving toward greater integrity

Participation in the Colombia Carbon Forum reinforces the project’s commitment to strengthening the market, fostering knowledge exchange, and advancing nature-based climate solutions.

In a global context where credibility is increasingly critical, platforms like this contribute to building a more robust carbon market, aligned with the highest international standards and delivering real impact on climate, biodiversity, and communities.
