COVID-19 health crisis management in the RIU-SM

We have led the way to face the current health crisis in order to protect indigenous communities of the Indigenous Reservation of the Mataven Forest (RIU-SM for its acronym in Spanish). We have focused our efforts on providing biosafety supplies and raising awareness among the population through different preventive measures such as: public disclosure of official statements of Colombian Government, publication & distribution of information material; hiring and training of risk managers to give educational talks to community leaders about biosafety protocols (masks usage, washing hands) & healthy habits to prevent infection and reduce risk factors.

Our Mataven REDD+ Project is a participatory process, we work hand in hand with RIU-SM indigenous communities to tackle climate change, stop deforestation, protect their tropical forests & reduce CO2 global emissions – while safeguarding their rich biodiversity and improving their well-being.
